Investments and Partnerships
Unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth and shared prosperity in Ghana’s mining sector.
Who Are We?
Investing in Ghana's mining and quarrying industries offers a distinct competitive edge, driven by several key factors.
Abundant Resources & Data: Ghana possesses abundant mineral resources, supported by readily available basic geoscientific data, facilitating informed investment decisions.
Propitious Investment Framework: The country offers a favourable investment climate, characterized by an effective and predictable legal and institutional system designed to reduce corruption, enforce the rule of law, and enhance transparency in mineral resource management.
Government Support for FDI: The Government of Ghana actively prioritizes increasing Foreign Direct Investment and is committed to fostering an enabling legal environment. There is no overall economic or industrial strategy that discriminates against foreign-owned businesses. In fact, projects deemed critical to the country’s development may receive additional incentives, and foreign firms can participate in government-financed programs on a national treatment basis.
Proven Track Record: The presence of 154 Ghanaian and 83 foreign companies holding licenses, primarily for gold prospecting, underscores the viability of the sector. Major international mining companies like Normandy Piesadon, Goldfields Limited, Lasource, and several junior firms from the United States, Canada, and Australia have established strong operations. Many have even leveraged Ghana as a strategic base for expanding into other countries within the sub-region.
Strategic Location & Trade Access: Unlike many landlocked nations on the continent, Ghana benefits from well-developed ports, enabling direct shipping to key international markets such as the United States and Europe. As a member of the WTO and a beneficiary of trade preferences from the EU (under ACP agreements) and the United States (under AGOA), Ghana offers excellent market access.
Robust Infrastructure: The country boasts a liberalized telecommunications sector with numerous internet providers and one of Africa’s few well-functioning stock exchanges, providing a stable financial ecosystem.
